Yerevan Botanical Garden is located in the Avan administrative district, at 1 Acharyan Street. This spacious park covers about 80 hectares and is one of the largest green spaces in the capital. The entrance is from Kanaker, and the admission fee is 500 drams per person (free for children under 11 years old).

The idea of creating the garden was initiated by renowned scientists Harutyun Magakyan, A. A. Akhverdov, and N. V. Mirzoeva. The architectural planning was carried out by George Murza in 1937–1938, and major reconstruction took place in 1945–1950 under the project of architect Hrayr Isabekyan.

The garden features a wide variety of plant species: medicinal herbs, wild plants, fruit trees, around 200 types of wild relatives of cultivated plants, as well as rare and endangered species of flora — totaling around 70 species.

Back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, residents of Avan would enter through the side path from Acharyan Street and spend their leisure time here. Besides gathering mushrooms and herbs, people would picnic, play games like football, running, volleyball, basketball, cycle, or even go on romantic dates. Wedding photo shoots and other events often take place here as well.
