If you want to understand Armenia through its craftsmanship, the Tufenkian Carpet is the perfect place. Located in the Tufenkian Heritage Hotel in downtown Yerevan. This small but beautifully curated factory is a tribute to the art of Armenian carpet weaving.
You’ll find:
- A collection of handwoven carpets from different Armenian regions, each with distinctive patterns, colors, and symbolism
- Exhibits explaining traditional techniques, natural dyes, and the meaning of motifs—like dragons, crosses, or pomegranates
- Carpets dating back to the 19th century, lovingly preserved
- The legacy of the Tufenkian family, who helped revive traditional weaving in Armenia and established modern production with deep cultural roots
The factory is not just about viewing—many visitors also enjoy visiting the nearby Tufenkian rug store, where you can see artisans at work or take home a piece of Armenian carpet.
Altogether more than 1500 hours of artisanal workmanship is required to make each of our carpets perfectly imperfect, charmingly individual, and to create the almost magical connection between the finished carpet and those who share their lives with it. It is much more difficult, time-consuming, and costly to make our carpets this way. We choose to do it because it matters.
These beautiful pieces combine technique, creativity and the finest materials into designs that are as unique and endearing as the women who craft them. Here you can also find bed covers, blankets, pillows, place mats.
