Our daily tour to Tsakhkadzor, Sevan, and Sevanavank is a very popular trip and lasts about 5 to 6 hours. The sites are located in the Kotayk and Gegharkunik regions. Overall, the furthest destination is about an hour’s drive from Yerevan.
1. Tsaghkadzor, Armenia’s most famous ski resort town, is situated on the slopes of Mount Teghenis. The temperature here is cool in summer, and in winter the slopes of Teghenis turn into ski trails. Tsakhkadzor is also known as a popular sports center, and it’s famous for its Kecharis Monastery—a medieval complex dating back to the 11th to 13th centuries. The complex consists of several churches, the oldest of which is St. Grigor Church, constructed in the 11th century by Grigor Magistros Pahlavuni. The interior of the monastery is modest and peaceful, with a few frescoes depicting religious scenes and a beautiful altar adorned with images of the apostles.
2. Our next stop is Lake Sevan, the largest lake not only in Armenia but in the entire Caucasus region. The lake is situated at an altitude of 1,900 meters and is only 1 to 1.5 hours’ drive from Yerevan. It covers an area of 1,242 square kilometers, with a maximum length of 74 kilometers.Sevan features a peninsula, on top of which stands the Sevanavank Monastery. According to an inscription near the church, it was built in 874 by the order of Princess Mariam, daughter of King Ashot I. There are many legends surrounding the church, and a nearby viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the entire lake.
