Cafesjian Center For The Arts in Yerevan was founded in 1972 through the efforts of art critic Henrik Igityan, who directed the museum for 37 years. The first exhibition was created with the help of the best Armenian artists of the 1960s, who personally donated their works to support the new museum.

Among them were Minas Avetisyan, Ashot Hovhannisyan, Martin Petrosyan, Gayane Khachaturian, Vruyr Galstyan, the Elibekyan brothers, Rudolf Khachatryan, and others.
